The Bagley 10 is a new condominium development located in Historic Corktown, Detroit’s oldest neighborhood. The building design is inspired by a walk-up/walk-down row-house typical of denser cities like New York and Chicago. Each elevated ‘stoop’ encourages street level interaction between inhabitants and the pedestrian traffic
of the neighborhood.

exterior

The exterior of the building is composed of burnished concrete masonry units, metal window components, expansive glass windows with metal panels, metal mesh railings, wood siding and custom wood doors. Each unit offers open living spaces, three bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and a one-car garage parking space in the rear, with another secured parking space behind.

interiors

As the interior designer for the project, I developed a standard interior package that fits the character of the building. Minimalist forms and clean lines reduced visual clutter. A neutral palette and quality natural materials where chosen to appeal to a broad audience of perspective buyers. I worked closely with vendors and contractors to develop and stay within the budget for the interiors.

The thin vertical metal rods of staircase guardrail tie both floors of each unit together. Countertops float on reveals, while recesses expose the wooden interiors of handleless cabinets. Indirect lighting washes the walls of the living spaces. Visible fixtures, hardware, and tile show restraint through simple geometric forms.
